Yes, Hamilton has a Book Crawl! Every 3rd Thursday of the month, you'll find local authors along Concession Street on the mountain ready to talk to you and provide you with personalized copies of our books. Currently, the weather has been nasty (this photo is from November), so we have been doing some virtual sessions on Zoom. As soon as the weather permits we will be back on the street.

The highly anticipated 4th book of the Anandrian Series, Twisted Destiny, is finally available in paperback and ebook formats. I've even included key points at the beginning of the book about the story-to-date for those new to the series, or if you need a refresher. Twisted Destiny can be found on Amazon, Indigo/Chapters, Barnes and Noble, and a number of other sites...
Should you be in the neighborhood, this Saturday, I will be outside the Tim Horton's on Concession Street in Hamilton, from 10:00 to 1:00 pm. You can find a lot of local authors along the street taking part in the growing Hamilton Book Crawl. It's a great opportunity to get some of your Christmas shopping done, or find a good book to settle in with in front of the fire as the cold weather moves in. I hope to see some of you there. The fabulous artwork on the cover that I have just approved was created using color pencils by my daughter, Laura Heaney.
The final design was put together by Tellwell, the company I am using to publish this story. A few more tweaks to the manuscript and I will be submitting it so they can format it into a book. Exciting times! Stay tuned! Hello Everyone! It's been a journey for me. Twisted Destiny has been a long time coming... However, I'm excited to say that the final manuscript is with my editor right now!
So why the wait for this next part of the story you ask? I did write a complete manuscript that I was NOT happy with. I sent it to my daughter, Laura, to read (she does all my artwork for the covers of my books). She said, "MEH!" She was not a fan either. I came to the conclusion that I had not produced my best, probably because I ended up as the caretaker for both of my parents and my creativity was not at its best. It was a long haul, and they have since passed away. On top of that, I was fostering a Dog Guide pup named Holly. I had Holly for a little over a year and then she went off to Dog Guide University in the Autism Assistance Program through the Lions Foundation of Canada. Then Covid-19 hit! The kennels called and said the kennels were closing down and could I take Holly back for a minimum of 4 weeks... Nine months later, Holly finally went back to school. She is now fully trained, and the foundation is waiting for restrictions to loosen up before matching her to her person (hopefully that will be soon). So, instead of the year she was supposed to stay with me, Holly ended up living with me for almost two-and-a-half years! That's 3 Christmases with me! Once Holly left me for the last time in January, I have been writing up a storm. The story flew onto the pages. It kept me well occupied in a quiet house. Laura kept up with my writing, too, and became enthusiastic about the story often offering me suggestions as I went along. We both feel I've written a winner this time around! I can hardly wait to get my edits back, then submit it to the publisher. In the meantime, I'll leave you with a picture of Holly when I dropped her off at school on January 11, 2021. And, by the way, Holly makes an appearance as a dragon in Twisted Destiny, plus she and I will be on the back cover of the book when it's published. And another tidbit, Alissa and Shannon, Holly's real life trainers, will be making an appearance as dragon whispers, too. They kept in touch with me weekly for 9 months giving me training exercises to keep Holly sharp, and we became great friends in the process. Hi Everyone! I have not abandoned my series. I know it has been a while since my last posting. Twisted Destiny will be making an appearance soon. Laura is well under way with the cover art, but the detailed drawing is taking time to complete around her work schedule. In the meantime, I have started the final book in the Anandrian Series, Dark Destiny, which will be book 5. Again, this is going slowly as I am fostering a Dog Guide puppy named Holly for about a year. Holly turned 10 months old yesterday and is doing really well. I am currently experiencing a dog going into heat for the very first time, so Holly is pretty much housebound - unless we can arrange a play date with other female dogs in the program. So far, it's been an amazing journey with this incredible yellow lab, however she will be my last puppy that I will foster. The time needed to nurture one of these fabulous dogs consumes your day. Once Holly is recalled to the Lion's Foundation, I will occasionally babysit i.e. if the trainers want time off for holidays, I will gladly host a dog for a few days, or if someone in the neighborhood needs a break for a day or two, I'll be the one to turn to. It is definitely a great community that works together so that a disabled person is provided with a dog without cost to them... For those of you looking for an end of the summer read, the Anandrian Series is available for your reading pleasure - or to refresh your memory before the release of Twisted Destiny, book 4.
I received a pleasant surprise email from Ezvid Wiki and I will copy part of the email they sent to me: We're writing to let you know that you have been included in our recently published wiki: Passionate Books That Show The Wide Range of Romantic Fantasy. Ezvid Wiki does not accept any paid sponsorships from publishers or authors, however, we do ask that, as a favor, you link to our wiki page from your official website. So, here is the link: https://wiki.ezvid.com/m/13-passionate-books-that-show-the-wide-range-of-romantic-fantasy-6OnqrCiBMSB2D Have a look at the list they have compiled for some fun reads! Another adventure has begun in my life. I have taken on Holly, a yellow Labrador puppy destined to be part of the Lions Foundation Dog Guide Program. I get to foster Holly for a year, socialize her, and introduce her to new situations before she goes back to the Foundation where she will be assessed and placed into one of their 7 programs. Once assessed, she will have 6-8 months of specialized training, then she will be matched up with her person that she will assist for the rest of her career.
Quite frankly, I had forgotten how demanding a puppy can be, especially since I live alone and can't hand off the puppy to someone else. However this is not a bad thing. It means that I have had a long break from Twisted Destiny, so that when I go back and read it again, I'll be seeing it with fresh eyes! And Laura, my daughter the artist, has been madly fulfilling Christmas commissions, so my book cover has been put on hold, too. So in the end, it all works out - except for my fans who are waiting patiently for the 4th book in the Anandrian Series. Never fear, it will get published! Well, it is 11:30 pm. Sunday night, and I've just finished my first read through of Twisted Destiny. I just have to say, it's a good thing when the author enjoys reading it through. Now, I want to read the next novel, Dark Destiny...
Guess that will have to wait, as there will be several more readings of Twisted Destiny, then a professional editor will have a crack at it. I can't tell you how excited I am to have completed this hurdle. It's taken a long time to reach this stage. Somehow, life keeps getting in the way of my writing career. For those of you patiently waiting... THANK YOU for hanging in there. I have been busy editing my 4th novel in the Anandrian Series, Twisted Destiny. As I reread my work, I'm delighted to say, I have become enthralled with my characters (Thank God) all over again. The story is becoming much tighter and I have, so far, reduced redundant words by about 3,000. I still have the last third of the book to go, so I'm sure I will be able to clean up my manuscript even more. It's amazing how wordy authors can be when creating a first draft.
As well as work on Twisted Destiny, I recorded an excerpt from Destiny Fulfilled (book 3 of of the Anandrian Series). It can be found at several different links: https://authorsreadpodcast.wordpress.com/2018/09/28/episode-23-kathryn-heaney-reads-from-destiny-fulfilled-book-3-of-the-anandrian-series/ https://authorsread.podbean.com/e/episode-23-kathryn-heaney-reads-from-destiny-fulfilled-book-3-of-the-anandrian-series/ https://www.facebook.com/Authors-Read-Podcast-264076417455140/ Have a listen, and tell me what you think! Twisted Destiny, Book 4 of the Anandrian Series, is finished!
I am thrilled with the story line and surprised my son-in-law when I read the ending to him. The character using his name actually finishes the book off. This is amazing considering I wanted to kill him off, but then he convinced me to make sure I resurrected him - like they do in soap operas. For those new to the series, I use family members and friends' names for my characters - the real people love this as they have a vested interest in their character and often give me ideas as to what their character should be doing. In the magical dimension called Anandria, names help to determine what powers they will possess. For example, I used my daughter's name, Diana, which means Moon Goddess, Deity of the Hunt, Divine One. Whenever Diana is in Anandria and the moon is up, she can use powerful magic. On Earth, where little magic exists, she loses her extraordinary abilities. Getting back to Twisted Destiny, this story revolves around one main character, Ella. Ella was introduced in book 3, Destiny Fulfilled. She lived in England and when magic spilled onto Earth when a tear in the fabric between dimensions occurred, she discovered untapped, latent fairy magic. In other words, she had Anandrian blood from ancestors who had been stranded on Earth centuries ago and didn't know this about herself - she is a fairy! In Twisted Destiny, we follow Ella through a journey of self-discovery. What she learns about herself is life-altering, for both herself and the rest of Anandria. Currently, I am editing Twisted Destiny, then I will be sending it off to a professional editor for a final look before I publish it. The blurb on the back of a book makes a reader want to pick it up and read it. So far, here's what I have come up with. The format using bullets is a little different, but there are so many story lines that interweave, I thought this might help describe a complex story. Let me know what you think! Magic in Anandria has gone wonky and has split many of the characters apart that you have come to know and love.
It's been a few weeks since I was last here. I haven't forgotten, and I will be adding more excerpts from Twisted Destiny, Book 4 of the Anandrian Series.
